Did you know that about 286,000 people get breast implant surgery every year? Many people have questions and concerns about breast augmentation. Here is a list that might not be everything you need to know about breast implants, but it certainly covers the important basics.

Are there certain things I should look for in a breast augmentation surgeon?

The plastic surgeon should be licensed, board certified in plastic surgery, and experienced in performing breast augmentations. Make sure they are someone you feel comfortable communicating with, since this will be important in making sure your process goes smoothly. There should be a free exchange of information between the surgeon and patient without the pressure of having surgery

What is the average breast augmentation cost?

Cost varies depending on the patient, the doctor and the details of the procedure, but it is usually five to seven thousand dollars. Breast implants are not typically covered by insurance, and keep in mind that they sometimes need aftercare adjustments as implants ultimately are not lifetime devices. On the other hand, the surgery is not so expensive in the long run if you consider that it averages out to just a few hundred dollars every year.

If I find the best plastic surgeon for breast augmentation, will everything go exactly like I want it to?

Keep in mind though that complications are something no doctor is ever 100 percent in control of. Your body is unique and could react in unexpected ways. On average, about 3 percent of surgeries experience some sort of complication.

Are silicone implants dangerous?

No.  Back in 1992, the FDA put a hold on the sale of silicone implants, until research found no connection between them and connective tissue disorders, neurologic diseases or cancer risk. Silicone implants were released back on the market in 1996 for patients under a study protocol and in 2006 were released for use in patients 22 years of age and older. Your main options for implants are silicone and saline, and there are benefits to each type. Silicone implants often appear more natural, while saline implants have a firmer touch, require a smaller incision, and can have volume adjusted during surgery.
