Side View of Female Torso in White PantiesOne of the most popular cosmetic surgeries today, liposuction, has slimmed and contoured millions of people’s bodies. Patients in the Tampa area who are struggling with stubborn fat deposits, despite following a healthy lifestyle, are often good candidates for this procedure. Two popular liposuction techniques used by Dr. Moraitis are ultrasonic liposuction and tumescent liposuction. Here, we will discuss the differences between these two methods.

Ultrasonic Liposuction

During ultrasonic liposuction, ultrasonic waves are used to liquefy the fat before it is sucked out by a small medical vacuum called a cannula. The ultrasonic waves can either be applied internally or externally. When applied internally, a probe emitting the waves is inserted inside the body. When applied externally, a paddle will be placed on the treatment area and waves are emitted though the skin. The latter allows fat to be eliminated without incisions, though more side-effects seem may be present.

Tumescent Liposuction

Tumescent liposuction entails a saline/lidocaine/epinephrine solution being injected into the treatment area(s). The cannula is then inserted, removing these fat cells. This technique often requires little pain and downtime, and patients may be able to return to work in as little as a week.
