All patients, regardless of age or sex, who come to our Palm Harbor practice know that the key to maintaining youthful-looking skin is starting a skincare regimen early with a qualified plastic surgeon. It’s never too early for a person to start taking care of her or his complexion. Ideally, the patient is young enough that surgical treatment isn’t necessary. Here’s a general guide to skincare by age:

Age 30 and younger: The first step everyone should take is investing in a quality sunscreen to protect skin from premature aging. Of course, removing make-up and moisturizing are important, too. Many patients in this age range can also benefit from non-surgical and minimally invasive treatments to rejuvenate their appearances.

Age 31 to 45: Assuming a patient has protected her or his skin, injectable treatments including BOTOX® Cosmetic and JUVÉDERM® or Voluma XC® dermal fillers can be combined to restore facial volume and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Laser procedures and more advanced skincare products are often incorporated into a treatment plan to delay the need for cosmetic surgery.

Age 46 and older: At this stage, many patients turn to surgical procedures such as facelift, brow lift, and eyelid surgery to create a refreshed appearance.

Of course, we’re not saying that once you hit a certain age, you should have cosmetic surgery as many surgical procedures don’t fall into a category by age. This is another reason for seeking the opinion of Dr. Moraitis, who can formulate a plan for youthful-looking skin.
